Album

The latest Woods album is another modest step forward for the band, as well as one of their catchiest and most. Fav tracks: morning light, politics of free, can't see at all. Least fav track: sun Sun Eater in the River of Light is the ninth studio album by the American band Woods, released on April 8, 2016 on Woodsist. The album was preceded by the singles Sun City Creeps, Can't See at All, and Morning Light. CITY SUN EATER IN THE RIVER OF LIGHT by WOODS, released 08 April 2016 1. SUN CITY CREEPS 2. HOLLOW HOME Woods have always been experts at distilling life epiphanies into compact chunks of psychedelic folk that exists just outside of any sort of tangible time or place. The first track, Sun City Creeps, sounds like it was lifted from Astatke's songbook, then run through an indie pop filter and tricked out with a slashing guitar solo. The rest of the album features a few more songs that mine this same territory, and while it's a little weird to hear the band making such a dramatic stylistic shift, it mostly works. Especially on the songs that tilt more toward the Woods' end of the spectrum, like the very catchy Can. Sun City Creeps has subtle Graceland touches while The Take shifts into psych-freakout overdrive around the 3:12 mark. Jeremy Earls thin falsetto drapes over the songs like an elegant veil, providing a steadying warmth that carries the album. City Sun Eater In the River of Light Woods. Nine albums in, Woods are comfortable in their identity as perennial Brooklynite psych-folkers. City Sun Eater In the River of Light doesnt drift far from the laconic path theyve tread, but add delightful, surprising side-trips. You can hear their aspirations on songs like Cant See It All, fragrant with 70s deep-crate touches, and Hollow Home, with its deep Beach Boys vibes. The sun city creeps. did you say Oh, let it go. We fall into love. every day. and take as we go. Not like Woods ever made crappy music, but this stuff is just plain great. Sun City Creeps might be one of the best songs of 2016. Worth aNot like Woods ever made crappy music, but this stuff is just plain great. Worth a hundred spins. To be sure, City Sun Eater isnt a complete reinvention, either-its largely rooted in the same '60s pop and druggy Americana thats defined all the band's records-but periodic shadings of reggae give the record a character of its own. Dubby organs lead Cant See At All, which breathes like a classic Lee Perry track. And like all of Woods recent albums, City Sun Eater is generously packed with pop songs, too. With its delirious wah-wah guitars, closer Hollow Home imagines what a George Harrison cover of Just Like Heaven might have sounded like utterly joyous, as expected. Creature Comfort, 03:47.
