From the album Willie Alexander & The Boom Boom Band MCA Records MCA-2323 1978 Willie Alexander was born in Philadelphia in 1943, but emigrated Loco Alexander born January 13, 1943 is an American singer and keyboardist based in Gloucester, Massachusetts. He played with the Lost, the Bagatelle and the Grass Menagerie before becoming a member of the Velvet Underground in late 1971, joining fellow Grass Menagerie alumni Doug Yule and Walter Powers and replacing Sterling Morrison, who had gone off to pursue an academic career. Willie Alexander's new wave group, The Boom Boom Band, consisted of guitarist Billy Loosigian, bassist Severin Grossman, and drummer David McLean. In retrospect, it's amazing they managed to pose as punks, opening their major label debut album with You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin' and closing with Alexander's tribute to Jack Kerouac. Still, the album showed that Alexander had a rock & roll heart, even if he was never going to get beyond the Cambridge stop on the subway out of Boston.
