It's reggae like the Upsetters and the Aggrovators used to make solid, chugging, midtempo dance grooves that work equally well for niceing up the party or accompanying a long drive on a sunny day. The lack of horn players in the band means that the Rhythm Doctors have a sound that actually comes closer to the Upsetters than the Aggrovators the organ handles most of the exposition and takes most of the solos, while the rest of the band lays the foundation and pushes things along from underneath. It makes me kinda philosophical after listening to 12 Shots of, what I really must call, Authentic Reggae and Ska. Although it does not sound 100 like the real thing only because the recording is simply too good still, I must say that this CD comes very close. And although the press release mentions the sound of Lee Perry's BLACK ARK STUDIO, there is hardly a phaser used on the CD and on those tracks where it is used, it's not done in the Lee Perry style. No, most of the music style pre-dates Black Ark for rea. The Rhythm Doctors has 289 members. Purveyors of top quality R&B since 1992. Ian The Doctor has been suffering with pleurisy since his bad bout of flu and the bronchitis that followed, and really wants to draw the line - he does however have boundless thanks for everyone who supported The Rhythm Doctors over the years. Those of us who were on board during the last phase of the band likewise - like. many of you, I started out as a fan, in the early 1990s
