2112 pronounced twenty-one twelve is the fourth studio album by Canadian rock band Rush, released on 1 April 1976 or March 1976, according to some sources by Anthem Records. After finishing touring for its previous album, Caress of Steel, in early 1976, the band was in financial hardship due to the album's disappointing sales, unfavorable critical reception, and a decline in attendance at its shows. The band's international label, Mercury Records, considered dropping Rush but granted the band. About 2112. The bands label didnt want Rush to do another concept album. The band ignored this advice and went on to record their first major commercial success and a signature record, which enabled them to chart their own course moving forward. Writing the material took about six months, and the album, recorded at Toronto Sound with Terry Brown, required about a month in the studio to finish. We dont want to change what people think about rock & roll, we just want to show them what we think about it. 2112 was remastered again in 2011 by Andy VanDette for the Sector box sets, which re-released all of Rushs Mercury-era albums. Following the poor reception of their 1975 album Caress of Steel , Rush was being pressured by the record company to produce more radio-friendly songs. However, the band decided to ignore them, and went on to create another 20-minute epic a decision that would ultimately spark the flame of Rushs success. The most notable song off this album is the title track coming in at an impressively long 20:33, this song launched Rush to stardom. 2112 pronounced twenty-one twelve is the fourth studio album by Canadian rock band Rush, released on April 1, 1976. The Toronto dates of the 2112 tour were recorded and released as All the World's a Stage in September 1976. The album 2112 features an eponymous seven-part suite with music written by Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson, with lyrics written by Neil Peart. The suite tells a dystopian story set in the year 2112. Since the album is named after the suite it is sometimes described as a concept. epic title track of Rush 's 2112 was 20:33 in length and occupied the entire first side of the album. Because of that, the triple-platinum project released on April 1, 1976 is often mistakenly identified as a concept album. While there was indeed a long-form subject attached to the title track, the entire second side of songs are unrelated to the storyline laid out by 2112 , technically striking it from true concept album status though spirited music fans will continue to argue otherwise. At the time 2112 was released, the members of Rush were at a crossroads
