One of my favorite albums. “Side A”, or the live radio tracks, is a refreshing set of new Milo Aukerman tracks (and a recording of ALL’s “Just Like Them”!) spanning a range of styles he’s covered before in Descendents - “The Underlying Lie” is a dark, crawling metallic beat similar to Descendents’s album ALL, and “Miserable” and “Problems” both are interestingly-rhythmed stories of depression. “Story” is easily the weakest song on this album, though still a great song, ending with a hard-hitting line about how “he crawled up inside his head and built himself a... wall.” “Gut Reaction” is one of my favorites on this album, with a nice uptempo rhythm and interesting lyrics. The album’s “Side B”, recorded at the Inn-House, seem to not feature Milo, but of the three tracks, “Hog”, reminiscent of Descendents’s “One More Day”, and “Please Go Away”, another interestingly-worded ballad set inside the mind, are some of the best songs on the album. “Restaurant Revenge” is also a much-appreciated infusion of Descendents-brand comedy. Overall, a great album, a hidden gem in Milo Aukerman’s repertoire.
