With Ragged Kingdom, two of the linchpins of the British folk scene, June Tabor and Oysterband, team up for a second time, 21 years after collaborating on what's considered as one of the genre's modern classics. Filmed at the Union Chapel London on April 19th 2012, directed by Judith Tabor was born and grew up in Warwick, England. As a young woman of 18, she was inspired to sing by hearing Anne Briggs' EP Hazards of Love in 1965. I went and locked myself in the bathroom for a fortnight and drove my mother mad. In 1976 Tabor collaborated with Maddy Prior on the Silly Sisters album and tour, with a full band that included Nic Jones. It provided the launching pad that same year 1976 for her first album in her own right, Airs and Graces. In 2011 Ragged Kingdom was named Album of the Year in the fRoots critics poll. In 2012 Folk Singer of the Year at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. June Tabor & the Oyster Band : Image. In 1990 June Tabor surprised everyone who had her pegged as the archetypal traditional song interpreter by linking up with the feisty Oysterband for the rocky Freedom and Rain album and promotional tour. It worked spectacularly well, enhancing the reputation and, perhaps, broadening the horizons of both parties, yet the experiment was never repeated. Until now, 21 years later, with Ragged Kingdom.
