Album

Jean Ritchie and her husband George Pickow launched their own Greenhays label with None But One, her first album in six years, which went on to win a Rolling Stone Critics Award. GR 708. Jean Ritchie. None But One LP, Album, RE. Greenhays Recordings. None but One by Jean Ritchie 6:28. jean ritchie sings TOO MANY SHADOWS 3:23. Jean Ritchie - Sweet Sorrow in the Wind 3:52. Jean Ritchie - Wondrous Love 2:55. After this album, her second, Geffen dropped her from the label. Sill fell into a downward spiral and died of an overdose possibly deliberate in 1979. What We Said Then: The goal of Sill's spiritual quest is absolute oneness with God, a fusion that is conceived both as psychedelic pantheism and in primitive, Judeo-Christian terms. What We Said Then: Like a gentler, distaff Basement Tapes, None But One eschews both portent and pretense, only to find greatness anyway, more through inherence than ambition. What we hear is not the questing for, but the realization and celebration of an identity - and that identity is as timeless and universal as it is beautiful. Jean Ritchie December 8, 1922 June 1, 2015 was an American folk singer and Appalachian dulcimer player. Became known as The Mother of Folk. As well as work songs and ballads, Jean knew hymns from the Regular Baptist church she attended in Jeff, Kentucky. Jean Ruth Ritchie December 8, 1922 June 1, 2015 was an American folk music singer, songwriter, and Appalachian dulcimer player. Her career bridged traditional and modern forms of folk music. In her youth she learned folksongs in the traditional way orally, from her family and members of her community and in adulthood she became a successful modern folksinger, promulgating songs in public through concerts and recordings. She was called by some the Mother of Folk. Jean Ritchie was a national treasure. She was a remarkably unique figure as well. The family had a repertoire of over 300 songs sung while working, for home entertainment and at church, usually without instrumental accompaniment. There is more instrumentation and group singing on this album than on None but One and the effect is warm and friendly, like being in someone's home, This was an attempt to round up some of her favorites on one album that had been scattered over many.
