Album

Animal Instinct is the title of the 1993 début release by instrumental rock guitarist Gary Hoey. The album featured his version of the hit Hocus Pocus, originally done by 1970s Dutch progressive rock band Focus. His band at the time consisted of a few notable names of 1980s hard rock, including ex-The Firm bassist Tony Franklin, keyboardist Claude Schnell ex-Dio, and drummer Frankie Banali Quiet Riot. Despite several attempts at genre-bending blues and soul references, Animal Instinct is all melodic bordering on adultsoft rock. The aggressive opener, Mass Hysteria, and the upbeat shuffle Texas Son count as highlights, but the real standout is probably Drive, a cut that boasts what is clearly the record's finest melody. Hoey plays admirably, and his supporting cast - Tony Franklin bass and Frankie Banali drums - also provide solid performances. Album 1993 10 Songs. Animal Instinct is often erroneously listed as Hoey's debut album, which is probably because it was his worldwide debut as a solo artist, and - with the radio hit Hocus Pocus - was his breakout release. It remains a fan favorite, and is also one of his biggest sellers
