Album

Joseph Edward Filippelli March 26, 1915 August 17, 2001, known professionally as Flip Phillips, was an American jazz tenor saxophone and clarinet player. He is best remembered for his work with Norman Granz's Jazz at the Philharmonic concerts from 1946 to 1957. Phillips recorded an album for Verve when he was in his 80s. He performed in a variety of genres, including mainstream jazz, swing, and jump blues. Fortunately his powers were still in peak form for this quartet set which finds him accompanied by local musicians for a set dominated by standards. Phillips makes his debut playing bass clarinet on Satin Doll, The Girl from Ipanema and Just Say I Love Her while featuring his stomping warm tenor to the other pieces. Flip In Florida is a bop music live album recording by FLIP PHILLIPS released in 1973 on CD, LPVinyl andor cassette.
